Don't expect to put items on Layaway on Black Friday:. Walmart is phasing out their layaway option.
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT) said today that, because of declining use and increasing costs, the company will phase out its layaway program as it expands other financing options. Customers will have until November 19 to place items in layaway for this Christmas season and merchandise must be picked up by December 8.
"Demand for layaway service has declined steadily as consumers turn to other options, such as online shopping, gift cards and no-cost credit alternatives," said Pat Curran, executive vice president, store operations, Wal-Mart Stores Division. "To assist our customers, we are offering one last opportunity to use layaway service this Christmas season."
At the same time, Wal-Mart is working to offer customers new payment options. The company already has zero interest offers for 6 and 12 months for current Wal-Mart cardholders. For the first time, customers who apply for a new Discover or Wal-Mart Credit Card will receive $20 cash back when they apply at the register and purchase at least $100 on their card the same day. |

Word from Malaysia is that Funai (Symphonic) will be the supplier of several of Walmart's BF TVs. No real shocker there, but good to know for research purposes.
Also, employees at some walmart stores are reporting that they've begun to get pallets of BF merchandise in already. Most are labelled "Blitz" and are often stored in Lawn and Garden. If you see any pallets like that, see if you can get a look through the packaging and figure out what's inside. _________________ Check out all the latest Amazon Promotional Codes, Coupons and Deals Updated Monthly at the top of the Hot Deals Forum! |

Bad News for Wal-Mart = Good News for Shoppers
If you dread Black Friday, the Friday after Thanksgiving, when shopping turns into a nightmare for many people, then Wal-Mart may have the solution for you.
The stores will be unveiling discounts starting this weekend, rather than waiting until the day after Thanksgiving.
This move comes due to recent problems the mega-retailer has had in the marketplace and with their image as a corporate giant.
Last year, Wal-Mart had success selling laptop computers for hundreds of dollars off the retail price. Now they're rolling out around ten thousand price cuts earlier in the holiday shopping season.
Analysts say it will likely force other stores to follow suit, which would make life for shoppers across the board a lot cheaper.

Flustered by its weak sales performance last month, Wal-Mart initiated a second round of deep price cuts Friday, this time on more than 100 flatscreen TVs and other hot electronic products.
CNN story: HERE
Among the newly discounted products are the Panasonic 42-inch HD plasma now being offered for $1,294 from an original price of $1,794 and a Polaroid 37-inch LCD HDTV now priced at $997 from an earlier price of $1,297.
The retailer also cut the price of a Kodak C875 digital camera to $249.64 from an earlier $298.77. It's also rolling back prices on pre-paid phones such as the Cingular C139 model. |

Black Friday at Wal*Mart According to a CNN Money article, Wal*Mart will be offering significant savings on high definition (HD) televisions, digital cameras and cell phones..
Such items include:
Panasonic 42" HD Plasma - $1,294 (was $1,794)
Polaroid 37" LCD HDTV - $997 (was $1,297)
Kodak C875 Digital Camera - $249.64 (was $298.77)
Various pre-paid phones, including the Cingular C139
Apparently stores have encountered lackluster sales this quarter and will need to start the price-wars early to recover in November and December. _________________ Check out all the latest Amazon Promotional Codes, Coupons and Deals Updated Monthly at the top of the Hot Deals Forum! |

Walmart may be "hold back" some Black Friday deals. Read on:
Wal-Mart's hiding some Black Friday deals
After Web sites leaked its post-Thanksgiving discounts, Wal-Mart says it'll unveil more "specials" only on walmart.com and not in circulars
By Parija B. Kavilanz, CNNMoney.com staff writer
November 15 2006: 3:33 PM EST
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Outfoxed by numerous Web sites leaking its doorbuster deals three weeks ahead of Black Friday, Wal-Mart is striking back by hiding other discounts until Thanksgiving day.
"A week from Friday is a big day. The internet has exposed everybody's offerings well ahead of time and now the race is to see who gets out first or last. That's going to happen and I don't think there's anyway around it," Wal-Mart's chief marketing officer, John Fleming, told a gathering of analysts at Morgan Stanley's Global Consumer and Retail Conference Wednesday.
"Everybody's seen our circular. They know our prices and we know everybody else's. But then we're going to add special offerings on Thanksgiving day online," he said. "After everyone finishes with the meal, we're going to use [walmart.com] as a channel to unveil special offers that nobody has visibility to yet."
Fleming said the idea was to use this strategy to drive consumers to Wal-Mart stores on Friday. Fleming's presentation was monitored via webcast in New York.
The day after Thanksgiving is dubbed "Black Friday" because it's when retailers are said to finally move out of the red, representing losses, and into the black, indicating profits. It also marks the start of the four-week shopping blitz leading up to Christmas.
Typically for competitive reasons, Wal-Mart (Charts), Target (Charts), J.C. Penney (Charts) and other retailers debut the eagerly awaited day-after-Thanksgiving specials only a few days in advance.
Among the deals Wal-Mart is offering its shoppers this year is a 42-inch plasma HDTV for $998. Industry watchers say this marks the first instance of a 42-inch flat-panel model priced below $1,000.
Meanwhile, executives from Wal-Mart's rival Target said Tuesday that the company would rush to match Wal-Mart's Black Friday discounts, especially on such big-ticket items. |

regarding Pricematching on BLACK FRIDAY:
I called the Manager of Walmart here in my area and was told as long as I have the ad and the product is exactly the same they will PM. So I would call the one you plan to shop at and write down the managers name you speak with and the date you called. I think it depends on the manager to be honest because I called the one I live close to and was told NO they would not PM. I am driving an hour away to my inlaws to shop at their local walmart and got the OK from 2 different managers their. I know it sounds crazy speaking to 2 but I wanted to make sure all the managers are on the same page. |
