At midnight on February 17, 2009, all full-power television stations in the United States will stop broadcasting in analog and switch to 100% digital broadcasting. Between January 1, 2008, and March 31, 2009, U.S. households can request up to two coupon cards, worth $40 each, to be used towards the purchase of up to two coupon-eligible converter boxes. This coupon program was put into place in order to provide over-the-air TV viewers with an affordable means with which to continue to receive free television services after the digital transition takes effect.
