I saw a commercial this morning while watching the CBS Early Show that showed the A2. The commercial shows a woman and she is talking about doing great things, and she says she is buying her husband an HD DVD Player from Toshiba. While she is talking they show a close up of the Player. They don't mention the price, but she says she was surprised by the price, even by Wal-mart.

I've read from a couple places that the $198 price tag is a front, that the price on the HD-DVD player is really $99.

$99 seems plausible. Please read this article:

Toshiba selling $99-HD-DVD Player with a catch

There is also another factor: WM is aware of the A3 HD-DVD (newer model) is going to be sold at Sears for $169 during black friday.

Toshiba - HD DVD High-Definition DVD Player $99.99

Yesterday Best Buy ran the Toshiba HD-A2 for $169 on-line and in-store. This morning the price was lowered to $99.99. I suppose this is to compete with Wal-Mart. They are sold out online, but there are several Best Buy locations near me that show them as being in stock. If you bought from Best Buy in the last 30 days for a higher price, or any other retailer that price matches, immediately get it price matched at the store you bought from to get a refund for the difference.
